NARRATIVE

Advocating for Equitable Education for All

Britney Mayowa’s upbringing in Los Angeles meant that she was fortunate enough to attend diverse schools. However, she couldn’t help but notice that she and other students lacked the educational resources needed to succeed. Britney quickly realized what these schools had in common: they were all in underserved communities. This awareness prompted her interest in education, specifically educational policy. Following her acceptance to UC Riverside, she decided to major in education, society, and human development.

After graduation, Britney plans to teach in classrooms to gain hands-on experience and eventually work for the California State Board of Education to advocate for policy change benefiting marginalized communities. Outside of academics, Britney is involved in the Nigerian Student Association.
