Quotes

I was a first-generation college student, so what UCR does is very close to home for me. To me, it is all about the future. Narrative
50% of students at UC Riverside are the first in their family to attend college. Barbara Kerr was among those first-generation students when she earned her B.A. in English as a transfer student. Today, she’s left a bold legacy of service and philanthropy on campus that will care for the immediate needs of UC Riverside scholars for generations.
After graduating from UC Riverside, Kerr's career eventually led her to become the president of the California Teachers Association. She was named the third most powerful person in Southern California by the LA Times in 2006. After an invitation from friend and fellow UCR alum, Ken Noeller, Kerr came back to campus as a mentor and member of the UC Riverside Alumni Association. She went on to create an endowed scholarship for immediate student needs and won the Alumni Public Service award in 2004.
