SOUND BITES/HEADLINES

From classroom to community impact
At UC Riverside, Rayhan Khan’s role as ASUCR CHASS senator helps him contribute to the campus. As a community member, his work as a intern at the California State Assembly has made a meaningful impact locally.

NARRATIVE

When giving back is the primary focus, students like Rayhan Khan can make a meaningful difference in their community. In his work as ASUCR CHASS senator, Rayhan has contributed to campus life by organizing events and assisting with writing several pieces of legislation. He was selected Senator of the Month for creating a “Walk For A Cure” breast cancer awareness event and drafting statements on the Afghanistan earthquakes and the passing of ASUCR's first president.

After applying to government internships, Rayhan became the first intern for Assemblymember Bill Essayli at the California State Assembly. His tasks included facilitating communication between constituents and legislative bodies and implementing initiatives to enhance the well-being of residents. These efforts resulted in Rayhan becoming the first recipient of the California State Assembly Resolution Award, which recognizes a constituent’s impact on the district.

Because of the resources available at UC Riverside, Rayhan can supplement his academic work as a political science student with opportunities that will propel him forward in his career.
