After learning about strategies to combat linguistic discrimination in the classroom, Valentina Moreno decided to double major in education, society, and human development and public policy. At UC Riverside, she’s enriching her college experience by building connections in both fields.

Two majors, one bold future 
By majoring in education and public policy, Valentina Moreno is working towards a career as an advocate for English language learners. By focusing on challenges such as linguistic discrimination, Valentina hopes to create a more equitable experience in the classroom.  
 
Boldly carving out a new future 
As a first-generation Latina student, Valentina Moreno is double majoring in education and public policy. After graduation, Valentina wants to support English language learners by advocating for policies focused on language-based discrimination. 

 

NARRATIVE 

As a first-generation Latina student, Valentina Moreno knows that earning two degrees is nothing less of an incredible accomplishment. She began her studies in education, society, and human development, but discovered a new world with public policy. By combining the two fields, Valentina could advocate for policies that improve the educational experience for English language learners.  

Valentina’s goal is to develop policies that address linguistic discrimination in the classroom. At UC Riverside, she has access to networking and academic opportunities that will help her grow professionally.
